About Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant
Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant consults on the development of disruptive and innovative medical curricula, using the arts as a pedagogy to initiate the conversation. The goal is to develop the five senses to enhance early clinical diagnoses of disease in all skin types, and to build empathy and cultural competency in health care providers.
Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant, MA, MD, FAAD, is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Howard University College of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor and former Vice-Chair for Diversity and Community Engagement at Duke University School of Medicine. She is board-certified in Dermatology and Internal Medicine.
She earned her MD from Harvard Medical School and completed her post-doctoral training in Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center and Dermatology at New York University, and completed a Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute, Dermatology Branch as a Molecular Biology Fellow in Bethesda, MD.

As a medical student, she was a Fellow at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambarene, Gabon, where she recognized the importance of detecting the early signs of systemic disease in black and brown skin.
She was selected as a Top Doctor in the Washingtonian magazine 1995-2016.
Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant has published widely, is the Ethnic Dermatology Editor, Visual Dx Editorial Board 2011-present, and co-author of Visual Dx: Essential Dermatology in Pigmented Skin, and contributor to three Skin of Color Dermatology editions.
She received the American Academy of Dermatology Award for Arts and Humanities in 2016. In recognition of her commitment and service to the specialty and the Academy, she received the 2025 Honorary Membership in the American Academy of Dermatology. She is a Past President of the Skin of Color Society.

She is a member of the Colby College Art Museum Board of Directors.
Since 2021, Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant has led a funded research project documenting the life and impact of Dorothy Doyle Harrison, RN, PhD, on healthcare in Washington DC and globally.
